Construction of the 30m city-wide all-fibre network has begun in Rochdale and will be supplied by Network PLUS on behalf of CityFibre. The team will use a range of construction methodologies, working in close partnership with Rochdale Borough Council and local communities to enable rapid roll-out while managing potential disruptions. Each section typically takes a few weeks to complete, however construction crews are typically only two to three days outside each home and CityFibre is in the mail before work begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The overall project is expected to be completed by 2024, but the first services will go live much sooner for people to benefit from. When the network is complete in each neighborhood, CityFibre will flag the operational homes, meaning residents can choose to connect to full-fibre-capable broadband services when they go live in their area. ISPs such as Zen, Vodafone and TalkTalk will be available to customers, with more expected to join the network soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regarding the project, Steve Thorpe, CityFibres Area Manager for Rochdale said: This is an exciting time for CityFibre and Rochdale as work on the new full fibre network begins today. Once our network is built, residents and businesses can access the best possible digital connectivity. One factor contributing to Rochdale&#8217;s growth is leveraging the opportunities presented by digital innovation and transformation. People can use these new digital technologies and improve their lives. Once the networks are in place, they will serve communities&#8217; connectivity needs for decades to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Full fibre optic networks, unlike many of the copper-based fibre optic broadband services available today, use 100% fibre optic cabling to carry data at the speed of light from the home to the point of connection. This provides users with speeds of up to 1,000Mbps for both upload and download, almost unlimited bandwidth and connectivity that users can count on.
