Skelmersdale residents will soon enjoy 13 times faster broadband speeds as FTTP (fiber-to-the-premises) broadband is slated for the city. With access to \u00a3100 million in private funding to support the nationwide rollout, BeFibre has relocated a team of broadband engineers to the region as the company prepares to provide FTTP (fibre-to-the-premises) connectivity to nearly 12,000 residential buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ultra-fast broadband in Skelmersdale<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
BeFibre will offer download and upload speeds up to 13 times faster than FTTC (Fibre-to-the-Cabinet), which currently covers most of the UK. Such speeds equate, for example, to the ability to download a 1-hour TV program in just 7 seconds or 500 Spotify songs in 25 seconds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Broadband network expands using existing ducts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
As the company aims to reach 80 locations and 1,000,000 premises by 2027, this is important news for Skelmersdale, a location that has always been particularly early on the roadmap. Skelmersdale’s full fibre broadband network will be designed, built and operated by BeFibres sister company Digital Infrastructure. Using existing ducts without having to dig up city streets, the company’s strategy is to use faster and less disruptive construction methods, reduce rollout costs, increase efficiency and minimize the environmental impact of network construction. Connectivity will be rolled out on a phased program, with construction beginning this month and the first homes activated and operational by the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
